The Onondaga Pottery Company (O.P. Co.) began in 1871, later changing its name to Syracuse China.  Initially, it produced earthenware and expanded later into producing fine china for hotels, restaurants, airlines, railroads, and housewares.  The manufacturing facility in Syracuse closed in 2009 after 138 years in operation.  Production was moved out of North America.

The cachet design of Syracuse China on the SYRAPEX cover and the two special cancels were created by Vincent Juchimek, a member of the Syracuse Stamp Club.  The inspiration for these was from the book, Syracuse China by Cleota Reed and Stan Skoczen, published in 1977 by the Syracuse University Press and from the Onondaga Historical Association which inherited the archives and the extensive china collections.  The OHA has a portion of this collection beautifully displayed and will change items occasionally to keep the exhibit fresh.  The "Poppy" plate on the front of the envelope was designed by Harry Aitken,  an English designer hired by Syracuse China in 1904.  The other plate is a general dinnerware pattern designed for commercial hotels.  Every cover purchased will have a card enclosed giving the bearer an honorary membership in the Turn-Over-Club.  We wish to thank everyone for their cooperation and help in completing this cover.

Separate cancellations are available for each day of the show - November 12 and 13.
